FRIDAY POST IT 9 - KEVIN

What did you learn about ALCOHOL & Teens

I learnt that actually majority of the teenagers of the world don't drink alcohol. It was around 7% of teens whom actually drink. For those who DO drink, it would affect them in a major way, as the human brain completes developing at the age of 25. So it would be recommended to NOT to drink as a teen, or potentially, EVER. I also learnt about BAC, which means Blood-Alcohol Concentration, which is most commonly used as a metric of alcohol intoxication for legal or medical purposes. One other thing that I learnt is that the younger the person is while drinking, the bigger the impact they will have. Teens are more affected than adults drinking alcohol.

How does Existentialism apply to me? And what is it?

a philosophical attitude associated especially with Heidegger, Jaspers,Marcel, and Sartre, and opposed to rationalism and empiricism, that stresses the individual's unique position as a self determining agent responsible for the authenticity of his or her choices.

Well it could apply to me, but not apply to me at the same time. I don't like doing things I shouldn't be doing for my free will and enjoyment. I usually follow the rules and eventually carry on life which will lead me to a fun place in the future. (Hopefully) But there could be times where I don't feel like doing what I should be doing, and procrastinate, or do the opposite.

GJ Day 8 Friday Post IT 9 - Kevin

                                                            How to play the game

Image result for subsistence game

In this game, so called Subsistence, your goal is to survive in a very dangerous environment. You are given supplies in the beginning and that's all you got. The rest is up to you. A gun is given to you, to protect yourself, and some foods and water. The most important item, would be the axe. You can use that to cut down trees, and collect wood to build shelter, and campfires, etc.

   Always cut down trees!

Be very cautious with wild animals.

Animals aren't the only way of dying! Freezing, Starving are key ways of dying. So you must spend your foods and water wisely.

Did you get AI Hunters?

No, unfortunately I did not. Many reasons vary. I've been killed many times with not spending my items wisely, such as bullets, and apples. I've also lacked supplies needed to survive the night, or supplies needed when I'm wounded. I would next time, have to spend a lot of time finding boxes, because those are INCREDIBLY important.

If I were to enter the game ONCE again, how far would I get with one more chance. (30 Minutes)

In my opinion, if I were to enter the game and play for 30 minutes, I would get to the point where I build a wood foundation floor. I would cut down many many trees, whilst searching for any boxes.

GJ Day 3 IT 9 - Kevin

                                                   What happened today in-game

Today, I was attempting to create a camp. What I would need is plenty of wood, fiber, and nails. It would take sometime collecting all materials, but it would definitely be useful.

During my hunt for PLENTY of wood, I have gone a very long way, but eventually got killed. I learned that if you're in an area with many of wild animals that can kill you, best bet would be to back off and go to another moderate environment. Other than that, it would be a waste of time engaging.

While collecting wood, and trying to find materials, it eventually became night time, but I realized that I shouldn't had kept woodcutting, rather build a camp fire, and woodcut very close to your fire. At the same time, you can not freeze to death, and survive a night, awaiting day light to come out and ready to continue your journey.

KEY IDEAS TO SURVIVE A DAY.

WOODCUTTING, VERY USEFUL AS YOU CAN BUILD A FIRE TO SURVIVE NIGHT.

DON'T ENGAGE AT ALL! IT'S NOT WORTH IT! BUILD A CAMP! WOODCUT!

Also, if you see a rabbit don't chase it, as it will lure you to a much more dangerous area. Keep doing what you were originally doing. As long as it wasn't fighting a bear.

UPDATED VERSION

I HAVE CREATED A CAMP.

GJ Day 2 IT 9 - Kevin

My Experience playing Subsistence for the FIRST Time.

Going into Subsistence for the first time was a fun, yet interesting game. There were moments where I messed up, but eventually got it to work. This game felt fairly realistic! Just didn't know the correct way to play the game. Here are some notes I've taken.

                                                           What Did I do Right?

There were a couple of things I did correctly, such as opening the inventory using the "G" on the keyboard, and collecting stray items, by clicking "F". I also learnt that you can shoot your gun using the left side of your mouse, and aim using the right side of your mouse. You can use the same concept by chopping down wood.

             What Did I do Wrong?

There were many times I messed up, probably more than what I did correctly. I've gotten killed by wild animals such as the bear and wolf, and wasn't aware that if you got near to them, they would chase after you. I also stumbled upon mountains and cold areas, which I have been hurt, not knowing that I would freeze to death.

Tips & Tricks! (EZ)

F Is a Command you can use to Pick up Items! (LOOT, WOOD, ETC)
G is a Command to Open INVENTORY.
Right Click to SHOOT GUN, OR SWING AXE. (TO GET WOOD, OR TO KILL)
Left Click to AIM GUN (FOR BETTER RANGE AND ACCURACY)

My opinion on this game during DAY 1

Overall, this game has been quite fun! I definitely had a great learning experience, and will head into Day 2 much more informed about everything. This game is very realistic, and I will need to use a strategic mindset heading into this game.

GJ Day 1 IT 9 - Kevin

Basic Needs:

Water, Shelter, Foods, and Oxygen

Definition of the title of the game:

The action or fact of maintaining or supporting oneself at a minimum level.

A Brief Description of the Game:

Subsistence is a co-op, sandbox, first person survival game. You are spawned as an ordinary individual and your goal is to build shelter, and prepare to survive and hunt in the malicious environment. Search for resources, farm plants and domesticate animals. In multiplayer, team up with other players to defend your base, and attack others, as well as neighbouring factions

Who makes the game?

Tom Shaw, or as known as on Steam, ColdGames. He is from Vancouver, British Columbia, and has three games he has publicly released. The three games are called "No More Room in Hell", "Shadow Warrior Classic (1997)", and the game we're focusing on, "Subsistence".

http://steamcommunity.com/id/coldgames/games/?tab=all

What type of game is this, and what other games can it compare to?

Subsistence is an open-world survival game, and it can compare to many types of games on the internet. One game that came to mind was DayZ. Both games require a strategic mindset to survive, such as finding food, and ammunition to prepare for any attacks. They can both be played in a multiplayer fashion, so you can form alliances.

What does it mean by "Early Access?"

Early Access is a stage where you can legally pay to play a work in progress product or a finished product of a game before it's release worldwide. Many large companies give out early access to certain people, ie; such as the recent Call of Duty.

Features of the Game:

Crafting Mechanics
Dynamic Base Building
Weapon Upgrade System
Mining Minerals/Resources
AI Hunters/AI Base
Farming
Animal Husbandry
Food Cooking Mechanics
Character Clothing System
World day-night System

What's the First THING you should do?

Definitely search for any common survival kits, such as water, food, or potential ammunition, and start finding and supplies you could possibly use to create any type of shelter.

Friday Post IT 9 - Kevin NOVEMBRE ONZE 2016

This Friday was a very productive, yet a very challenging assignment. I've learned how to use new Photoshop tools to create a Halloween pumpkin, and a creepy hand involving a hand and an eye.

Which Layer Style Tool did I use to create the Iris?

I used the "Pen Tool"  to create the iris on the creepy hand. I found it  much easier than using the gradient overlay to create it because it just felt like it was my style. I made approximately 8 eyes involving and iris, and tried my best to change it up and make it a creative finish.

JTN stands for Jeton, which is referring to a token for a coffee machine.

Friday Post IT 9 - Kevin - October, 14, 2016

My Khan Academy Icon

Photoshop Logo

What did I do?

During this week of IT 9, I learned how to use Photoshop, as well as create animations using the
program. I learnt how to make a gif and
TOOLS such as Cropping Tool, Magic Wand, Blending Effects, Free Transform (Sizing Tool).
I also completed off some extra Java Scripts to get rid of any potential missing assignments.

Short Cuts I've learned!

CTRL D = Remove Outlining (Photoshop)
CTRL V = Paste
CTRL C = Copy
CTRL Z = Undo
DLT = Delete
SHFT CTRL I = Removes ALL Outlining (Photoshop)

Animating!

For animation in Photoshop, you can do a variety of things with your one picture you have created, by using the Timeline option. On timeline, you can change the opacity of the layers you have on your picture, and create it into a gif, making it look like it's disappearing. You can also use the position option to move your layers around, making it into a small movie.

One of my ANIMATIONS!

I wish my teacher knew that I am having so much fun with using Photoshop and animating. It's probably one of my favourite things to do so far in this class, and I'm looking forward for more to come in this class!
